Running a marathon in the South Florida heat can be a really tricky challenge. Here are some of the best tips for what to wear to keep you looking and feeling cool during race day.

Invest in good running shoes. Don’t just grab the first pair of old tennis shoes hiding in your closet. Worn running shoes are one of the leading causes of running injuries.

Wear synthetic fabrics. Wearing synthetic fabric while running in the heat keeps moisture off of your skin. Avoid wearing cotton socks, which traps heat and causes blisters. Try DriFit or CoolMax products.

Wear a supportive bra. For female racers, it’s very important to wear a sports bra that is supportive. Avoid really tight-fitting clothes that may trap heat and sweat, causing skin irritation and rashes.

Protect your skin. Being outside with the South Florida sun bearing down on you all day can put your skin through a lot and can increase the risk of skin cancer. Make sure to apply sunscreen to your face and arms and wear a hat to keep the sun out of your eyes.

Bring back the fanny pack. Even though the fanny pack seems like a thing of the past, it is perfect for holding small items that you may not want to leave behind while running, like identification, keys, your cell phone, etc.
