The Martin County Community Foundation had much to celebrate at the Dolphin Bar in Jensen Beach, the former site of Frances Langford’s famed Outrigger Restaurant. Board members and friends of the 28-year-old Foundation were marking the establishment of the New Frances Langford Fund for Martin County, honoring the newly named Emeritus Board and welcoming new board members Ellyn Stevenson and Gytha Von Aldenbruck.

More than 500 volunteers sorted and packed more than 200,000 pounds of food—enough for 178,043 meals—to help those who struggle with hunger. The 24-hour event was mixed with a lot of fun, including gift card giveaways, a late-night Zumba class, and an early morning karaoke contest for volunteers working the 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. shift.

Impact 100 Martin Launch

With the support of Martin County Community Foundation and the stamina of a group of influential female philanthropists, Impact 100 Martin has officially launched in Martin County. Its mission is to engage female philanthropists to enrich the community through strategic, high-impact grant making. Members can be as active or as hands-off as they choose. Each invests $1,100, and together, they vote to award grants in the amount of $100,000 for projects within the county.

The Founding Friends of Treasure Coast Hospice held an Afternoon Tea Party at the Harbor Ridge Yacht & Country Club. The event featured an elegant tea, a 50/50 raffle and a fashion show. Proceeds benefited Treasure Coast Hospice Counseling Services Youth and Family Program.

Curt Whiticar’s 105th Birthday Celebration

More than 175 community members and friends came to Indian Riverside Park in Jensen Beach to wish the longtime local Curt Whiticar a happy 105th birthday over hors d’oeuvres, drinks and cake. The celebration was an opportunity for Whiticar to mingle with old friends. After retiring from the sport fishing industry, much of his time has been dedicated to painting. At the age of 96, he also wrote a book about what life was like in Stuart in the early 1900s.

Center State Bank won the polo match, and awards were given to classic car show owners and best hat contestants. The traditional halftime Champagne divot stomp brought all the guests onto the field. United Way Donor Appreciation Luncheon

United Way of Martin County recently honored members of the Keel Club, Tocqueville Society and United Way Foundation Legacy Society with a lunch at Bonefish Grill in Stuart. Guests watched the United Way Day of Caring campaign kickoff video that highlighted the massive volunteer effort held in September where 50,000 meals were packaged for food-insecure residents in Martin County.
