Start slow. Conserving energy is critical in distance running. If there are a lot of runners, be patient. You’ll need the extra energy for later on in the race.
Maintain a steady pace. Don’t run too fast or you’ll run out of steam. Find a pace that’s comfortable for you so that you don’t cramp or fatigue.
Drink plenty of fluids. Before, during and after the race make sure you consume at least six to eight ounces of water or a sports drink every 15 to 20 minutes to stay hydrated and keep your body cool, especially when running in hot weather.Read more about Race day tips

1. Schedule your juice cleanse strategically. Don’t start it when you have friends visiting, a cocktail party to attend, or – in my case – a food issue of a magazine to produce. The moment I walked into a restaurant for a photo shoot, and was hit with the scent of fried food and fragrant sauces, was a low point. It smelled so ridiculously, torturously good. (Seriously, avoid restaurants at all costs.)Read more about 4 lessons I Learned From

When did the nutrition standards go into effect? And what’s the gist of the changes?
The nutrition standards went into effect on Nov. 1, and removed a lot of the less healthy foods from vending machines, snack bars and stores in the schools. The new rules aim to cut calories, fats and sugars from the snacks available to children, due to increasing rates of childhood obesity. Food items on campus are now healthier.
Tell us about the nutritional standards that vending machines and other venues must comply with.Read more about No more junk food in schools

Q: What do you love most about nursing?
A: I’m a “people person.” I enjoy talking and listening to people and their stories. I love to see people laugh, and one of my gifts is “clowning.” Working as an oncology nurse, I developed a sense of responsibility toward the patients, not only to provide compassionate nursing care, but also to cheer them up. I’ve dressed up to go to work on holidays, decorated their rooms, told them jokes and even danced.
Q: What is the most difficult aspect of caring for people?Read more about Life lessons from a veteran nurse
