Carol Dee Ankrom has been called “artsy” her entire life. So, when it came time for the artist to name her burgeoning business, the task was simple. She decided on Artsy June – her nickname meshed with her daughter’s middle name. Whimsical by nature, each one of Ankrom’s paintings aims to capture the innocent delight that only a mix of children and creativity can convey.Read more about A Touch of Cheer

Q: What was it like coming to America for the first time?
It was “Alice in Wonderland.”
Q: When did you realize you wanted to be a fashion designer?
I never thought I would be a fashion designer, I was only thinking about paying the rent. And to pay the rent, you had to make beautiful clothes that people wanted to wear. That’s what drove me to design.
Q: What legacy do you hope to leave on the fashion world with your brand?Read more about Designer Dossier: Elie Tahari

Had it not been for the welcoming smile on Lisa Midlarsky’s face, I may have turned around and walked back out of the Defy Gravity Yoga studio in Boca Raton. The facility where she teaches could double as a torture chamber, with questionable black straps hanging from the ceiling panels. Midlarsky used a ladder to drape the ropes with vibrant silks, and I was about to trust them with my life during my first anti-gravity yoga experience. From mine to yours, here’s what to expect:Read more about ZERO GRAVITY

What it is: The Oakland Park-based company, DL Revamp, offered me its five-day “reset” cleanse. It comes with juices, salads, snacks and more, plus an Amp It Up Kit to prep for the cleanse. The company offers three- to 10-day plans meant for everyone from beginners to avid cleansers. The detox isn’t “juicing.” (Thank goodness for chewing.) Instead, the cleanse offers organic, plant-based foods, and bridges the gap between traditional foods and liquid cleanses. I said, “Sign me up.”Read more about A Detox Challenge

Cleanse Dos:
Take advantage of nutritional consultations prior to the cleanse.
Eat light, vegan foods before and after your cleanse to ease in and out of the cleanse. Avoid gluten and processed foods.
Only choose organic food and juices, otherwise you will be putting toxins and pesticides back into your body.
If you are very hungry, have a green apple or a handful of organic hemp seeds. Remember you are doing this cleanse because you love your body, so listen to it.Read more about Tips for staying true to the cleanse.

Chimes, bells and melodies interrupt the constant tick-tock of clocks greeting visitors at Clocks By Hollis in Port St. Lucie, but the sounds certainly don’t bother the father-son team who run the shop.
With dedication and passion in honoring the high-quality tradition of mechanical clocks, Phil and Kris Hollis fix, clean and sell every kind of timekeeper imaginable. All types – from Russian ship clocks and cuckoo clocks, to grandfather clocks and pocket watches – are on display.Read more about The Timekeepers

Q: When did you first realize you had a fascination with antique jewelry?
I realized that I had a love for antique jewelry when I was probably, I want to say, 8 or 9 years old. There was an antique jeweler in Maine, her name was Mrs. Ivers, she had cotton blue candy hair, and she was an old-school Mainer. She was an antique collector/dealer and she gave me my first piece of jewelry, which was a wedding band, weirdly enough.
Q: What was the moment when you realized you wanted to be a jewelry designer?Read more about Designer Dossier: Alexis Bittar

When did the nutrition standards go into effect? And what’s the gist of the changes?
The nutrition standards went into effect on Nov. 1, and removed a lot of the less healthy foods from vending machines, snack bars and stores in the schools. The new rules aim to cut calories, fats and sugars from the snacks available to children, due to increasing rates of childhood obesity. Food items on campus are now healthier.
Tell us about the nutritional standards that vending machines and other venues must comply with.Read more about No more junk food in schools
