Facials make me nervous. I have fair, sensitive skin—a dermatologist and an aesthetician’s nightmare. Plus, who wants to spend the next day or two with a blotchy, red and puffy face? But when I heard “nourish and hydrate with no downtime,” I decided to give it a try. After 50 minutes of bliss that left my skin shiny and bright, I’m sure glad I did.
The facial is an advanced medical-grade skin care treatment that targets lines, wrinkles, acne-prone skin and hyperpigmentation—all things that flourish in the South Florida sun. It softens the skin’s texture and tones, and helps repair existing sun damage. Yes, please!
After a few personal questions (to make sure my skin could handle the treatment), the aesthetician jumped in with a cleanser, then an exfoliating peel, followed by extractions using a vortex-suction to clean out my pores … scary-sounding but thankfully painless. I felt small amounts of pressure applied in various spots on my face. The aesthetician finished with a serum that replenishes antioxidants, peptides and hyaluronic acid. The result: radiating skin that felt smooth, healthy and hydrated.
The best part? I could walk out of the spa without my face looking raw and chemically over-processed. In my world, that’s a facial victory.
Available at the Boca Raton Resort & Spa, The Viceroy Miami, and other spas. For a full list of locations, visit hydrafacial.com. A 50-minute treatment costs approximately $220; prices vary by spa.
