Clad in her signature overalls and multicolored pepper hat, Laurie Scott wends her way through rows of perky sprouts and vibrant vegetables ripe for the picking at Organic Oasis Farm in Palm City. “This is our tomato tunnel,” says Scott, pointing out lush vines with bright red cherry tomatoes. “And here, we did some companion planting with arugula, herbs, turnips, and carrots.”

Scott and co-owner Sarah Glover are wrapping up their second season at Organic Oasis, a 4.23-acre farm. The crops grown at the USDA Certified Organic farm are distributed through a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. CSA members purchase a membership at the beginning of the season and receive fresh, organic produce grown on the farm every week for around 25 weeks. This season, members enjoyed a bounty of vegetables including cucumbers, cauliflower, green beans, kale, scallions, and watermelon radishes. “People love it because it helps them understand what is in season and try new recipes,” says Scott.
Scott and Glover are already planning for next season and will be opening their CSA program to new members in August. A food forest is in the works which will expand the variety of produce available to CSA members, in addition to the new farm store which is open two days a week at the farm. Papayas, guavas, mulberries, bananas, pigeon peas, and roselles are all part of the plan. “Ideally, we will have summer fruit,” says Glover. “Our goal is to get more people here.”
