Coral Springs native Megan Davies is an expert in personal fitness. As the winner of “THE 20s”—a fitness reality show that awarded her the title of Beachbody Super Trainer—she offers tips to make 2017 the year for achieving a healthy lifestyle.
How did you get cast on “THE 20s”?
Besides owning a gym, I have also been working as a fitness model for Sports + Lifestyle Unlimited for the past several years. Most of my opportunities with them include print ads for various sports clothing lines. One day the agency called me and asked if I would be interested in being submitted for a reality show. To be honest, my first reaction was, ‘Reality show? No way!’ After they explained that it was for Beachbody and that they were looking for their next Super Trainer, I knew that I would need to get out of my comfort zone and go after this opportunity.
Tell me about Beachbody.
Beachbody is the leading provider of at-home fitness and health products. They are responsible for some of the biggest names in fitness, including Tony Horton of P90X, Autumn Calabrese of 21 Day Fix and Shaun T of Insanity. More importantly, they are responsible for changing millions of lives through their fitness and nutrition programs.
Where can we find your workouts?
The workouts I created on “THE 20s” are available now on Beachbody on Demand. You can like my Facebook page—Megan Davies Fitness—to stay up-to-date.
What are some effective ways South Floridians can exercise outdoors?
There are plenty of activities to take advantage of in South Florida, including kayaking, paddleboarding, biking, hiking and snorkeling. We have so many great beaches and beautiful parks that it makes it easy to find something to do, even if it’s just getting out for a walk in the sunshine.
What are your go-to exercises that ensure results?
One of my favorite things to do is sprint on the beach. Sprinting can increase your speed and power while having the added benefit of fat burning. I can’t always get outside, though (sometimes we are having our afternoon Florida rain) and might end up with limited space to workout. I like to throw mountain climbers into my workout when indoors to mimic that sprint. There are so many variations to make it easier or more challenging, depending on your ability level.
What are your tips for those serious about starting a fitness journey?
When you start your fitness journey, take a moment to sit down and think about where you are at and what you want to accomplish. Set goals for yourself that are well defined and realistic. Also, don’t expect results to happen overnight, and give yourself a realistic time frame. Plan exactly which days and what time you will be working out. Make this appointment with yourself and hold yourself to it; and decide on ways to hold yourself accountable.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working out?
I stay pretty busy between work and working out, but I love being out on the water fishing and diving when I have time.
