The frantic pace needed to operate an elite tropical fly-fishing lodge requires the kind of grit and determination that will wear down the resolve of anyone not fully committed to success for all of their guests. Just ask Robert Neher, proprietor of East End Lodge in McLean’s Town, Grand Bahama. This premier bonefishing destination operates at full capacity from fall through late spring, with Neher at the helm.
Neher’s commitment to hard work was never more evident than in 2019. After the lodge suffered devastating losses at the whim of Hurricane Dorian, Neher decided to rebuild and keep forging ahead. Anyone willing to work this hard certainly learns to appreciate the value of some time off.

When the busy fishing season tapers off and the lodge closes for the summer, Neher recharges his batteries at home in Jupiter with friends and family aboard his Pursuit S 328. Dividing his time equally between relaxing afternoons at the local sandbar, casual cruising, serious offshore fishing, and boating to the Keys helps take the edge off.

The Pursuit S 328 offers the perfect mix of creature comforts and fishing ability to suit Neher’s boating style. From bow to stern, the S 328 provides comfortable seating, ample sun protection under the beautifully styled hardtop, and walk-around space for anglers to move freely with a hooked fish. The convenience of a console cabin provides a place to get changed into a swimsuit in private as well as space for a Vacuum Flush marine head. Plenty of room is available down below to store various safety gear, water toys, and personal effects.
This model is equipped with twin Garmin MFD electronics units, a Lewmar bow thruster, a complete JL Audio MM105 sound system with speakers located 360 degrees around the deck divided into three zones, and a through-stem stainless anchor roller with a Windlass-operated stainless plow anchor. A molded FRP hull side dive door with a boarding ladder for water re-entry also serves as a convenient boarding location at the dock.

Twin Yamaha F300s power the vessel, providing respectable performance numbers for a boat in this class. The best performance comes in at 1.3 mpg turning 4,000 rpm while cruising at 32.2 mph. At 5,000 rpm and 42 mph, the engines still deliver 1.1 mpg; at 5,750 rpm and 50 mph, you get .93 mpg.

As the summer draws to a close and returning to entertaining guests in Grand Bahama looms on the horizon, Neher will be enjoying the last few days of summer with his Pursuit, drifting along the edge of the Gulf Stream off Jupiter or anchored on the sandbar—fully rested and plotting the course for another busy season at the lodge.
