Hobe Sound resident Michael J. Tougias met Adam Gamble on a fishing boat in 1999, and the two men became fast friends. Both published writers—Tougias is the author of The
Finest Hours, which was made into a Disney movie starring Chris Pine and Casey Affleck in 2016, and Gamble wrote many of the Good Night children’s books—the best buds decided to pen a new book together about their friendship journey that developed through a shared love of fishing.
“It’s a story of overcoming obstacles told via the setting of our fishing trips at sea,” Tougias says of the book, The Power of Positive Fishing: A Story of Friendship and the Quest for Happiness,” which was published by Lyons Press last fall. The authors alternate chapters—Gamble focusing on nature, and Tougias spinning humorous tales about their “boneheaded misadventures.” The book takes a deep look at male friendship, demonstrating how a shared hobby bonded two men who found support in each other through the ups and downs of life. Says Tougias: “We show how important a single friend can be when life’s waters get choppy.” The Power of Positive Fishing is available in hardcover, digital, and audiobook wherever books are sold.
