This holiday season, the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast is hosting its annual Home for the Holidays program, inviting locals to serve as seasonal fosters for shelter pets. The program kicked off December 5 and will continue through January 3.

Pet pick-ups can be done Mondays to Saturdays, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Palm City shelter. The humane society’s two Stuart thrift stores will also have cats available to be fostered. To view available pets, visit hstc1.org/Adopt.

For those who choose to adopt the pet they foster, adoption fees for dogs and cats older than 1 year will be waived, thanks to support from Wilmington Trust. For all others, the adoption fees are $175 for dogs younger than 1 year; $75 for cats younger than 1 year; $25 for rabbits; and $10 for guinea pigs and other critters.

The humane society prefers that participants provide food bowls, bedding, and toys for foster pets, but the shelter will assist if needed. Any pets not adopted by their fosters or otherwise finding a forever home during the program will need to be returned to the shelter by 4:30 p.m. on January 3
