Novel 'The Summer Before the War' Will Please 'Downton Abbey' Fans With Its Early 20th Century England Plot
It’s time to pull out the suntan lotion and head to the beach in sunny South Florida. Blue skies, fluffy clouds and warm breezes herald the beginning of spring. Let’s all take a moment to step outside, take a deep breath and stretch.
What to Read this Month:
Helen Simonson’s The Summer Before the War is the book to read this month. Described best by The Washington Post as “A Novel to cure your ‘Downton Abbey’ withdrawal,” Simonson delivers an immersive narrative of a small town in 1914 England, filled with deep characters, a bit of scandal and love, loyalty and family. Simonson will be joining us locally for the BookMania! author festival.
Must Attend Event:
The most anticipated author event of the year, BookMania! will take place on Saturday, March 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Jensen Beach High School. The Library Foundation of Martin County will sponsor the free community event, which features 12 authors from around the country. New to the format this year is the Young Adult panel featuring Jay Asher (Thirteen Reasons Why) and Paul Griffin (Burning Blue).
