After 5 Years, Georgia Woman Reunites With Dog in Port St. Lucie
Monday was undoubtedly a happy day for Melinda Fairnot: The Georgia woman was finally reunited with her beloved dog, Rosco, whom she lost in Miami more than five years ago.
The shih tzu went missing in November 2009, when Fairnot was visiting friends in South Florida. At the time, searches for the dog were fruitless.
According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department, the pup was found wandering the streets of Port St. Lucie over the weekend. When an animal control officer picked him up, she found a microchip and was able to contact Fairnot, who then rushed over to pick up the dog.
The city of Port St. Lucie posted video of the touching reunion on YouTube Monday afternoon.
According to WPTV, the dog was in good care all these years. Port St. Lucie resident Carolyn Shelton bought the dog, whom she called Hiper, from a friend in Fort Lauderdale in 2009. On Sunday, the dog wandered off after Shelton's grandson forgot to bring him back in. She, like Fairnot, looked for him but didn't have any luck. She saw the reunion on TV the next day, the station reports.
