Book A Stay At Jensen Beach’s Hutchinson Shores Resort & Spa To Experience True R&R

Nov. 27 Editor's Note: Our review mentions the spa services at Hutchinson Shores Resort & Spa. When our writer visited the resort, the spa was open to guests but has since been closed for last-minute renovations. We apologize for any confusion. According to the resort, the spa will be open by Dec. 11. This is subject to change. Please contact the resort directly for the latest opening date information.

I take a deep breath of salty air, and flip the page of Alice Adam’s novel “Invincible Summer” as I sit on the balcony of my room at Hutchinson Shores Resort & Spa. It’s appropriate considering that all my friends and family up north are busy bundling up while I’m located in the state of endless summers.

The sounds of waves crashing right below envelops me in a stress-free cocoon. At this moment, all that matters is the ocean and a great book.

Hutchinson Shores is Jensen Beach’s new resort—and the first to open in the area in almost two decades. Being there makes it impossible not to feel relaxed, and it is the ideal staycation for any Treasure Coast local who needs to feel rejuvenated without traveling far.

Situated right on the water of Hutchinson Island, the resort’s location provides the chance for guests looking to escape life’s hustle and bustle to enjoy a small-town feel. For those who prefer a calming stay over an action-filled weekend, this one’s for you.

That’s not to say the resort doesn’t provide adventurous activities and amenities to immerse yourself in. There’s surfing and other water sports, local museums, nearby golf courses and more. But, once you arrive and see your suite’s decor, filled with fitting nautical symbols and dark blue shades, all you’ll want to do is take a deep breath and say, “Ah.”

For exclusive views of the water and surrounding beach, book an oceanfront room on the fifth floor. The balcony will be your weekend haven for drinking coffee as you watch the sunrise, talking with your friends or family and unplugging from technology.

The cherry on top of any vacation is being able to experience the resort’s spa. Hutchison Shores shouldn’t be your exception to this rule, and a massage is always in order during a weekend staycation. Not only does it help decrease stress, but also will make you feel healthier and stronger.

My massage started by sitting in a soft robe, in a soothing waiting room, sniffing oil samples that I could choose for my treatment. I went with an earthy scent, and entered harmony during my 50-minute massage that worked away all of the deep knots. My massage therapist also provided me with tips and exercises to try to prolong the benefits of the treatment.

The weekend ended with cocktails and dinner at Drift Kitchen + Bar, Hutchinson Shores’ signature restaurant. Try the Seaside cocktail, mixed with Tito’s handmade vodka, organic elderflower liqueur, fresh pineapple juice, squeezed lemon and topped with a pineapple wedge for the final touch. It’s refreshing and not too sweet.

Order a signature pizza like the Margherita or Genova White, baked in a wood-fired oven, Neapolitan style. Don’t skimp on desserts, either. The Torched S’mores, served in a jar, is rich in chocolate and a must-order, “treat your self” menu item.

By the time you check out you’ll be smiling from the type of bliss that makes you feel centered and ready to take on the world.
