NASA says Florida is the brightest state for the holidays
Florida is the brightest state across the globe this holiday season, according to NASA/NOAA satellites. During Christmas, many U.S. cities shine up to 50 percent brighter at night compared to the rest of the year. The map from space suggests that Florida is particularly fond of holiday lights.
NASA scientist Miguel Roman discovered how patterns in nighttime light intensity change during the major holiday season. The lights start getting brighter after Black Friday and continue through the New Year.
Light intensity increases by 30 to 50 percent in major cities and up to 30 percent in urban areas.
