Palm City-Based Vocalist Terry Barber Releases 'Christmas Presence' Album Produced By 17-Time Grammy Winner Steven Epstein
Classical vocalist Terry Barber, who is also the founder of Treasure Coast nonprofit Artists for a Cause, has released a new album for the holidays.
Called "Christmas Presence," the album is a collection of holiday music performed in unique arrangements. It was produced by Grammy-winning Classical Producer of the Year Steven Epstein, who has worked with renowned artists, such as Yo-Yo Ma and Placido Domingo.
"It's been on my career bucket list forever to work with Steven Epstein, who has 17 [Grammys] and has produced most of the top classical and musical theater artists," said Barber, who is now a voting member of the Grammys.
Barber has not only appeared on albums with superstars Madonna, Cyndi Lauper and Chaka Khan and performed at The Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall and Moscow's Svetlanov Hall. He has also mentored young Treasure Coast artists through his nonprofit, Artists for a Cause (A4AC).
"I moved to Palm City into the home my mother had lived in, which she loved," Barber recalled. "I had my children there and began connecting with the arts community in the Treasure Coast. That's why I founded Artists for a Cause there."
"Christmas Presence" features 10 holiday tracks, including two duets—"Christmas Once More" with opera star Denyce Graves and "Christmas Lullaby" featuring boy soprano Erich Shuett, a Florida native currently on tour with Broadway's "The Sound of Music."
Barber is a countertenor, which puts him among a small group of singers with an unusually high range. In "Christmas Lullaby," the combination of a countertenor and boy soprano on one track makes for a duet with two of the rarest types of singing voices.
Holiday favorites "Ave Maria" and "O Holy Night" are also on the album.
With the classical holiday album out for everyone to enjoy, Barber shared with Stuart Magazine what he loves about the holidays here at home.
"My favorite thing about the Treasure Coast [during] the holidays is the same as the rest of the year—the sense of community and community responsibility," he said. "Real people with big hearts getting involved."
