Prayer Vigil For Missing Teen Boaters Planned At Stuart Beach

The Stuart community is banding together to pray for the safe return of missing teen boaters Austin Stephanos and Perry Cohen.

A vigil at Stuart Beach is planned for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. A similar event took place at Jupiter Inlet Monday evening, when community members gathered to light the way home for the teens by releasing paper lanterns into the sky.

Tuesday marks the fifth day of search efforts for the 14-year-old Tequesta boys who never returned from a fishing trip Friday afternoon. The Coast Guard located their capsized boat 67 nautical miles off Ponce Inlet.

The Coast Guard is now focusing the search in Georgia waters, where officials believe the current would’ve taken them. Debris found in the water early Tuesday turned out not to be related to the search.

A public Facebook group titled “Find Austin & Perry” now has more than 65,000 members. Family and community members have taken to the group to post news and updates related to the search.
