Stuart Magazine Editor Chosen For Dancing With The Martin Stars
One of Stuart Magazine’s very own will be shaking things up on the dance floor.
Society editor and graphic designer Liz McKinley has been chosen to compete in the fifth annual Dancing with the Martin Stars competition on Sept. 12.
McKinley, who has been paired with local dance instructor Kevin Marone, said she has been asked to participate for the past few years but always declined.
“Dancing is not my strong point and doing it in front of an audience is daunting,” she said. “But after a while, they wore me down and I thought, ‘OK, it’s for a great cause and I love a challenge!’”
Dancing with the Martin Stars was created by the Martin County Healthy Start Coalition four years ago. Since the start of the event, the nonprofit—which offers support and education to pregnant women and infants—has raised nearly $325,000 to ensure that babies in Martin County are born healthy.
Much like in ABC’s hit show “Dancing with the Stars,” well-known members of the Martin County community are paired with professional dance instructors who train with them. The teams will compete at the Lyric Theatre in September, and the winner will be determined through performance and fundraising ability.
Other contestants in 2015’s all-female star cast include Janine Landolina, a commercial realtor; Kimberly Sahyoun, a designer at Sign Store and More; Maria Reich, the marketing and membership director at Willoughby Golf Club; Stacey Hetherington, a real estate agent; and Rose Durbin, a rabbi at Temple Beit HaYam.
