Stuart Magazine Is Participating In Martin County Rocks, And There Are Plenty Of Local Prizes In Store

When our readers are excited about a new trend, it’s hard not to be just as enthused.

After hearing so many delightful stories about locals joining in on the Martin County Rocks craze, we at Stuart Magazine decided to jump in on the fun.

We’ve hidden nearly a dozen hand-painted stones of our own around Martin and St. Lucie counties (hey, no harm in spreading the joy!). The first person to find each rock will be able to win prizes, such as gift cards and event tickets. Instructions on how to claim the reward are written on the back of each rock.

For those unfamiliar with the concept, Martin County Rocks was launched by Cindy Wiley-Rhude and her daughter Kaitlynn Byrne in November after they learned about a similar effort taking off in Lakeland. The premise is simple: Paint a rock with a creative saying or sketch, and hide it around town for locals to find. If you happen upon one yourself, post a photo to the group's Facebook page, re-hide the rock, or replace it with a newly painted rock of your own.

Today, the Facebook group has more than 17,000 members, as more locals join in to get outdoors and connect with neighbors.

"Lots of friendships have been made over this, and the community has really come together," Wiley-Rhude said.

If you find any Stuart Magazine rocks, be sure to post a photo to our Facebook page to share with the community!
