Stuart Sailfish Regatta Will Be Making Waves This Weekend

Head to Stuart Causeway this weekend for a little live music and a lot of powerboat racing.

The Fifth Annual Stuart Sailfish Regatta, taking place May 21 and 22, will transform the Stuart Causeway once again for a weekend full of racing powerboats, hydroplanes, skiffs and more. The event will also feature a kids' zone, swimsuit contests, and food and drink.

With a stellar view from the bridge, spectators can watch the boats race by at speeds of over 100 mph. The American Power Boat Association-sanctioned event typically draws in thousands of powerboat fanatics to watch upwards of 70 teams of boaters compete.

Races will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, with final heats taking place on Sunday. Tickets start at $10 per day.

President Sergio Nativi suggests attendees check out the Vintage Alley, which features displays of retired powerboats. In addition, the kid zone will work to impart environmental knowledge to kids in the community.

"I'm most looking forward to the entire community having fun; it's a great community event," he said.

This is also the Regatta's first year offering a free transportation system all weekend long. While the Stuart Causeway is closed down from 6 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Sunday, Molly's Trolleys will take people back and forth across the bridge, according to Nativi.

The Stuart Sailfish Regatta helps give back to the Treasure Coast by promoting local charities, stimulating the local economy and raising environmental awareness. One of the Regatta’s top priorities is its commitment to the protection of the Indian River Lagoon.

Nativi said the event leaves no environmental footprint. By using mushroom anchors, even the sea floor is left completely undisturbed. Over 60 volunteers oversee environmental consciousness throughout the weekend.

If you’re looking to attend the Sailfish Regatta in style, VIP tickets to the pre-party on Friday are $75. The party will include live music, cocktails, and fare to snack on.

For a race-day view and experience that can’t be beat, the VIP Race Day Tent includes lunch and drinks at a discounted bar. Admission is $60.
