Vanessa Williams Is Coming To StarStruck Theatre For A Special Fundraiser. Here’s How You Can Help The Local Arts Program.
Now’s your chance to mingle with Vanessa Williams and support the local arts.
The actress, singer and Broadway star will be coming to Stuart for the StarStruck Theatre Gala, presented by Patricia L. Lambrecht, early next year. She will help raise money for StarStruck to buy the building that houses its theater program, which has helped more than 500 local artists go on to attend prestigious BFA programs in universities across the country. StarStruck currently pays rent for the space.
“Arts programs contribute, greatly, to improved academic performance. The character, academic and overall development skills learned at StarStruck Theatre – Florida’s crown jewel of musical theatre education – makes future success an achievable reality for our children...whether or not they pursue a formal arts education or profession,” Vanessa Williams said.
The theater is currently looking for sponsors for the March 3 gala, which will feature cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, as well as musical performances by the star and the theater’s young artists. There will also be a moderated discussion focusing on the importance of the arts in children’s lives.
Sponsors will receive two theater seats with complimentary valet parking, recognition in the event program, and a variety of exclusive perks, including a meet-and-greet with the legendary star.
The theater wants 92 percent of every dollar raised to go toward the purchase of the building, StarStruck’s Marshay Williams said.
The end goal is to ensure Stuart continues to be at the forefront of the arts, she said—not just for kids who express interest in pursing it professionally one day, but for artists of all ages who simply want to express themselves through classes and performances.
“We want the community to know they can count on this building being here,” she said.
In fact, she already knows Vanessa Williams is impressed with the raw talent and the caliber of the young artists in the place many people think of as “little ol’ Stuart.”
“Even though Stuart is a small town, Starstruck Theatre is known for helping young artists find and hone their craft,” Marshay Williams said.
