Burgess Duane, Ryan Jackson Wed In Simple Outdoor Ceremony At Tropical Ranch Botanical Gardens

WHAT THEY DO: Burgess, 30, is the school secretary at Port Salerno Elementary, and Ryan, 33, is the account manager for STS Aviation Group.

HOW THEY MET: The couple met at South Fork High School and later played on the same kickball team for a Jensen Beach league in 2013. Soon after, they began dating.

HOW THEY KNEW THEY’D MET “THE ONE”: It was a sense of humor that initially kicked off the relationship, but the couple came from different backgrounds—Burgess is from a ranch in Indiantown, and Ryan grew up surfing in Stuart. “Going on dates that involved activities completely out of our comfort zones made us appreciate one another and definitely required trust. After trusting someone, it’s easy to fall in love with them,” Burgess says.

ON THE PROPOSAL: Burgess and Ryan took a trip to the Bahamas and had just finished snorkeling on the reefs when Ryan asked Burgess if she wanted to walk along a path that overlooked the ocean to take a photo. Burgess, hesitant from her appearance after being in the saltwater, initially rejected the idea but eventually agreed. Ryan pulled out a ring from his swim trunks and proposed as the second photo was taken.

ON SELECTING THE CEREMONY AND RECEPTION SITE: Selecting a venue and reception hall that could accommodate their families was most important in the planning process. The couple also had to invest money in their dog’s surgeries after an accident, so planning a simple, outdoor wedding at the Tropical Ranch Botanical Gardens became the perfect choice. “It was so beautiful in their gardens, that the only use for flowers I had during the entire wedding were my bridesmaids carrying them,” Burgess says. “We wanted all emphasis of the day to be about enjoying one another with family and friends who came to celebrate with us.”

SPECIAL DETAILS: Ryan and Burgess picked air plants from scrub oak trees in their backyard to decorate the reception tables for their simple and naturally pretty qualities. “Falling out of the trees and off ladders that we picked airplants from, and getting scrapes and scars made for some pretty interesting memories,” Burgess says. “Ryan might have opted to hire a florist at that point in time, but I’ve always enjoyed a good adventure.”
