Local High School Sweethearts Wed At Willoughby Golf Club

WHAT THEY DO: Alex, 29, is the production manager for his family’s company, Rupp Marine, and Nicole, 28, is the office manager at Advantage Software.

HOW THEY MET: The newlyweds are high school sweethearts. They both attended John Carroll Catholic High School in Fort Pierce and met when Nicole was a junior and Alex was a senior.

HOW THEY KNEW THEY’D MET THE ONE: Alex and Nicole dated for nearly 12 years from the time they first met in high school. “As cliché as it may sound, I have always wanted to marry Alex,” Nicole says. “I couldn’t picture my life without him.”

ON THE PROPOSAL: The couple was preparing to leave for a trip to Ohio to visit family over Thanksgiving, so Nicole stayed home from work to pack. Alex woke up “extra early” that morning claiming he was heading into work. “I woke up to our bedroom door being closed, which was odd because our dog usually sleeps with me but wasn’t in our room,” Nicole says. “So out into the kitchen I go and Alex is going to town on breakfast—pancakes, fruit, mimosas, you name it. I was like, ‘What is the celebration?’” Alex quipped it was a “pre-vacation breakfast.” He sat her down and told her to close her eyes. When she opened them, Alex was down on one knee. The jewelry box with the ring sat next to a plate of pancakes covered in blueberries.

ON THE THEME: Alex and Nicole originally wanted to have an outdoor wedding, but with a large guest list, they decided to have the ceremony indoors with a cozy, rustic theme. Bringing the outdoors in, Nicole decorated the space with willow branches, ferns and hydrangeas, and used warm tones of creams, tans and greens with splashes of navy and gold. With soft candlelight acting as a final touch, the venue was transformed into the intimate, romantic space they desired.

ON THE SPECIAL DETAILS: Alex picked a special song to surprise Nicole with for a private dance at the end of the reception. As the evening was winding down, the DJ asked everyone to head outside for a sparkler send-off so the newlyweds could share a private dance together. Alex chose “Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole, to which Nicole says, “We danced by ourselves and just embraced, so in love.”
