From Math Classmates At Martin County High To Recent Newlyweds, Morgan Conlon, Ryan Gilbert Get Married At Flagler Place In Stuart

WHAT THEY DO: Ryan, 23, is an analyst at DICK’s Sporting Goods, and Morgan, 23, is a medical ICU nurse at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian.

HOW THEY MET: The couple met in a statistics class at Martin County High School and after being set up by friends, they attended homecoming together senior year. “After the homecoming dance, Ryan asked me to be his girlfriend to which I was hesitant to say ‘yes’ because we were both going to undecided colleges next year. Ryan saw my hesitation to answer and quickly responded by saying, ‘Morgan, I’m not asking you to marry me, just to get to know each other a little more,’” Morgan says. “Needless to say that changed my mind—and he is a liar.”

ON HOW THEY KNEW THEY HAD FOUND THE ONE: It quickly became clear for Morgan that Ryan was making her a better person, she says. He valued family and the time they spent together, no matter how hectic life became. For Ryan, their first date left a lasting impression. “I did not know where to take her for our first date, but then Morgan suggested Duffy’s in downtown Stuart because she wanted to watch the Gator football game,” he says. “I was immediately sold.”

ON THE PROPOSAL: When Ryan received a job offer from DICK’s Sporting Goods in Pittsburgh, the couple flew there to find housing. During the trip, Ryan took Morgan to Grandview Park, which overlooks the Pittsburgh skyline, and shared with her a book he had made with pictures from their relationship. Ryan included a page about their future together that read, “There’s one last thing.” When she got to the page he dropped to one knee and asked her to be his wife.

ON SELECTING THE CEREMONY AND RECEPTION LOCATION: Morgan attended St. Joseph Catholic School and always wanted to be married in her family parish. After seeing Flagler Place, the couple knew it would make for a great reception spot with its closeness to downtown and the outdoors element, which was important considering the couple had been away from Florida.
