Skeptical of Dating Apps? Let These Newlyweds Persuade You

May 2017 Also on Digital Edition

WHAT THEY DO: Kristine, 32, is a Martin County School District teacher, and James, 34, is a senior media buyer at a private firm in Boca Raton.

HOW THEY MET: A dating app allowed for the couple’s romance to blossom. Kristine was new to the area and took advice from a coworker who found success using the dating app Plenty of Fish. James had just moved back to Stuart after completing school in Orlando and figured online dating might be worth a shot. They talked online for three weeks before meeting in person at a Starbucks. “It was like we had known each other for years,” Kristine says. The date continued with dinner and a movie.

HOW THEY KNEW THEY’D MET “THE ONE”: “He treated me so wonderful,” Kristine says. They spent every moment together from their first date on. “I just knew from all the years I kept praying, James was the one.”

ON THE PROPOSAL: James took Kristine to Orlando for a weekend at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. He had called the park beforehand to explain his proposal plan. Once in the park, James asked Kristine if she wanted to take photos by the Universal rotating ball, which Kristine agreed to do. As a photographer took the picture, James asked for her hand in marriage. “It was one of the best moments of my life,” Kristine says.

ON SELECTING THE CEREMONY AND RECEPTION SITE: Kristine and James chose to marry at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Palm City. Kristine always dreamed of having a traditional wedding in a church. “I wanted the Lord’s presence in our marriage, so I knew James and I needed to choose this location for the ceremony,” she says. A reception followed at Hutchinson Island Marriott Beach Resort & Marina, which the couple chose for its proximity to the beach.

ON THE SPECIAL DETAILS: One of Kristine’s favorite moments during the wedding was when her father walked her down the aisle. “Cinderella” by Steven Curtis Chapman played during the father-daughter dance, and for James and Kristine’s first dance, they chose “From the Ground Up” by Dan + Shay.
