Home, Sweet Home
Sailfish, downtown shops, palm trees, festivals, busy beaches and tourists comprise our area during this time of the year.
But, there’s much more that happens behind the scenes – especially in the design world. You might not think about it, but designers touch and shape our lives in many ways, from our desk to our smartphone to our chair to our glasses. In some way, almost every experience we have has been lovingly composed or engineered by designers.
Each year, I go to events and to dinner parties just to eavesdrop on who is doing what with their homes. My list of ideas is endless – everything from teardowns to newly built homes to inside renovations. The “Love it or List it” trend is so popular right now, and I must say, I am loving it.
On the weekend before Christmas, I had the pleasure of being the Home Holiday Tour Honorary Chair for the Woman’s Club of Stuart. On this annual home tour, (which you must get a ticket to next year) the properties were amazing! I could’ve pulled a year’s worth of story coverage, but one residence stood out. Our local realtor Kim Spears decided to “Love it,” instead of “List it,” renovating her home into a beautiful, updated model. Best of all, she did it on a dime! (See page 70.) Also, see a transformation made by H. Allen Holmes, who relocated his business in Palm Beach County to here in Martin County several years ago. (See page 76.)
I am addicted to HGTV home shows like “Rehab Addict,” “Property Brothers” and “Fixer Upper,” so naturally, I like to see what our designers are doing here – hence our “Before & After” feature. (See page 62.) Last year, this was a big hit, and I ended up receiving another round of submitted photos this year. I hope you find a room transformation to emulate in your own space!
And, for those of you sitting at your desk in the office all day, reference our “Desk Duty” piece to discover new items that will spruce up your working environment. (See page 115.) Many of the products are even available to pick up locally.
I love to have designer input on my home. I’ve chosen to “Love it” in my 1988 home that will soon be remodeled.
So, find a designer in our pages and give yourself the chance to explore new possibilities for your home!
