Publisher's Letter: Teeing Off

Ilearned that golf legend and LPGA winner Nancy Lopez was living in our area several years ago. I remember talking to my mom about it and how thrilled she was to know Nancy could potentially be a feature for Stuart Magazine. My mother was an avid golfer, and both of my parents tried encouraging me to play the sport for years. Unfortunately, I never took a liking to spending time on a golf course. However, meeting Nancy Lopez for the first time made me wish I did!

We talked about her growing up in the business; her father; her wins on the green; what it was like to create one of the first ladies golf wear lines; and her wonderful “Nancy Lopez Adventures” events. The Treasure Coast is lucky to have someone like Nancy living in the community and enjoying it as much as we do. I can’t speak highly enough about her charitable giving, especially as the national ambassador to AIM for the Handicapped. Read it on page 42.

When the first signs of fall hit South Florida every year (like when pumpkin spice rules every shelf) it’s time for the Stuart Air Show! This year marks its 30th anniversary, and the theme is about teaching children the love of aviation. We are excited to show you its history just ahead of the show’s November debut! See the story on page 34 by Ike Crumpler.

As I’m writing this, we are in the middle of an incredible relief effort for the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian’s devastation. Stuart Jet Center along with the Stuart Sailfish Club, Blue Marlin Cove Resort and Marina, Daymaker Charters, TentLogix and Puerto Rico Relief Flight have been flying there to bring much-needed supplies to the people of the Bahamas. As you thumb through this issue, please keep the Bahamas in your thoughts as they will continue to need our support.

Speaking of support, this issue features our wonderful Charity Datebook. This invaluable resource guide will give you the listings of every charitable event in Martin, St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties. Read about the area’s charities, the events you may want to attend, and we hope you will find one to get involved with.

We’re excited for a new season to start, and can’t wait for you to see everything we have planned!
