Teresa Klein, Rare Earth Gallery
A former museum curator, programs director, and educator, Teresa Klein purchased Rare Earth Gallery in September 2020. The gallery brings art lovers to historic Downtown Stuart to “shop small” and discover paintings, ceramics, pottery, home décor, and other surprises handcrafted by more than 65 contemporary local, regional and national artists, as well as works of the Florida Highwaymen.
At Rare Earth, Klein strives to create more than a retail space; she hopes the gallery stirs curiosity, inspires others, and nurtures a love of art and beauty. She has a BFA in painting and an MFA in creative writing from American University, but degrees are just a portion of her education. “For me, real education comes from listening, and from observing,” she says.
Klein, who comes from a family of artists, noticed her aesthetic changed after the unexpected death of her husband Kevin Klein in 2002. Prior to her husband’s death, Klein was a representational artist, but after his death she began to paint more abstractly. In 2012, she had an exhibition and authored a book of her large abstract paintings and healing prose and poetry called “And Fall Came Anyway…” Recently she’s been working on a series of diminutive drawings called “Lifelines,” which begin as miniature brain waves and
become tiny landscapes.
Klein believes artists are messengers in the world, using their hearts, hands, and ideas to manifest the tangible and uplifting. “Art not only brings beauty to the world, but also meaning and soulfulness that can raise consciousness and touch lives in challenging times.”
