East Florida Eye Institute

Ronald Frenkel, M.D., F.A.C.S.; Paul Schacknow, M.D., Ph. D.; Joseph Faust, M.D., F.A.C.S.; & Staff

East Florida Eye Institute has been on the cutting edge of ocular treatment for over 30 years. They are renowned for successful cataract surgeries with lens implants that correct astigmatism and reduce dependency on glasses. The caring physicians also specialize in glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. It has been Dr. Frenkel’s lifelong passion to improve sight and prevent vision loss as “it creates meaning in our lives,” he says. Ronald Frenkel, M.D., is the founder of the institute and the nonprofit Eye Research Foundation. He is a Harvard University fellowship-trained physician. Dr. Schacknow also trained at Harvard and wrote a glaucoma textbook. Dr. Faust is a kind, knowledgeable and highly experienced ophthalmologist. The staff members at East Florida Eye Institute have over 155 years of combined experience in ophthalmology, and all physicians are certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. EFEI also has the distinction of working with the Food & Drug Administration on the approval of a wide range of ophthalmic medications. Through clinical trials, they helped develop many eye drugs including Eylea and Lucentis, now the gold standard for the treatment of wet macular degeneration. Patients of the institute gain access to new drugs long before they become available to other doctors and the general public. “We have made huge advances over the past few decades via clinical trials that have markedly reduced blindness,” Frenkel says. “We care very deeply about our patients and their outcomes.”
