Wearing a piece of Michelle Rae’s jewelry is like donning a ray of sunshine. Four years ago, the designer launched Michelle Rae Design, inspired by her passions in life: the beach, family, and art.
Her jewelry is truly Florida-made, created from seashells, shark teeth, starfish, and other finds she discovers on her weekly walks along Stuart’s shoreline. “My daughter and I go to the beach every Saturday,” says the Palm City resident. “We collect shells and sometimes get lucky and see a shark’s tooth. I combine the items with resin to create jewelry pieces.”
Rae has recently expanded her brand to include boho-inspired jean jackets and pillows featuring beachy sayings and images of iconic women like Dolly Parton and Stevie Nicks. Her latest jewelry collection features beautiful blue and white florals. “I combined the floral, blue and white art with the seashells, and they turned out so beautiful, I felt inspired to make necklaces, bangles, and earrings alongside the rings I normally make,” says Rae. She sells her unique designs at craft shows throughout South Florida and also offers shipping nationwide via her website.
“I want to start collaborating with surf shops and then expand to boutiques,” says Rae. “And if I ever open up a brick and mortar in the future, I want it to be in Jensen Beach’s Maple Street Art Cottages.”
