If You’re New To Yoga, This Simple Pose Is A Great Start

899

The physical practice of yoga has a powerful and positive effect on our stress levels and moods, which translates to clearer skin, weight loss and management, balanced hormones and increased energy. This restorative yoga pose, referred to as “Legs Up the Wall,” is a simple pose with potent mind and body benefits. By elevating the legs, we reverse our circulation, sending fresh blood and oxygen to the heart and head, as well as facilitating the body’s detoxification processes. Try this pose before bed to calm the mind, reduce stress and achieve a more glowing complexion.

Find an open wall and sit parallel to it. The side of your leg should be right up against it. In one motion, swing both legs up the wall. Lean back, resting your head on a pillow. If the lower back feels achy, place a pillow beneath the sacrum. Eventually, the tailbone should be right up against the wall, but if your hamstrings are tight, back the tailbone away from the wall a few inches. Relax the leg muscles, and allow your hands to fall off to the side. Close your eyes and take long, deep inhales and exhales through your nose. For the best results, stay here for one to 10 minutes.
