The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast is looking for Palm City’s next top dog. Pet owners can nominate their canine companions to serve as the community’s Honorary Dog Mayor, a title first awarded last year at the 22nd annual Mutt March to Chase Gohlke-Marino.

Chase, along with 13 other canines in the community, raised more than $5,000 for the shelter animals during the mayoral campaign.

In addition to bragging rights, the new mayor will receive major perks: a framed picture displayed in the humane society’s lobby, recognition on the Mutt March web page, a shout-out on the Mutt March Facebook page, and a basket full of goodies. Each nomination costs $25, and nominations will be accepted online through October 31. Voting opens on November 13.

The winner will be announced at the Mutt March on January 23. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Memorial Park (300 SE Ocean Blvd). The event will kick off with a walk around the park followed by other dog-friendly activities, including the always competitive pet costume contest, a lure course, and the “flea-less” market for shopping.
