The Hobe Sound Nature Center has a new executive director! Marine scientist, educator, and conservation leader Hada M. Herring took the reins from Jill Griffin in June.
Herring brings more than a decade of expertise in marine mammal conservation, environmental education, scientific research, and nonprofit leadership. She completed her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Science Education at the University of Florida and held leadership, teaching, and research positions there, as well as with the University of Miami and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Her work connects communities with science, fosters environmental stewardship, and creates meaningful educational experiences for learners of all ages.
As executive director, Herring will lead Hobe Sound Nature Center’s interdisciplinary team in delivering STEM-based environmental education programs, including hands-on museum experiences, summer camps, guided educational experiences, sea turtle walks, lecture series, and community science initiatives.
Herring will also continue the center’s partnership with the Nathaniel P. Reed Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge to protect and interpret one of Florida’s most important coastal and scrub ecosystems.
