From pickleball to ballet, there’s no shortage of local events and activities for residents to usher in the holidays this month

December in Vero Beach brings an ideal climate that invites locals to get outside and explore the area’s parks, shorelines, downtown streets, and cultural events. This month, get out there and connect with the community, celebrate the holidays, and perhaps learn a few new skills for the new year. 

December 10: Hibiscus Children’s Center Candlelight Ball 

Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, dinner, and dancing outdoors to support youth residing at the Hibiscus Village. Bellewood Plantation, 6 to 10 p.m., $250

December 12: Art in the Park

A fine art and crafts show featuring a wide array of genres and mediums presented by Vero Beach Art Club. Humiston Park, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., free

December 20-22: Nutcracker for All and Nutcracker on the Indian River 

Original, one-hour productions of the holiday classic with a Florida flora and fauna twist by Ballet Vero Beach. Tree House Vero Beach, tickets start at $10

Pick Up Pickleball!

If you’ve been curious about this fun sport, you’re in luck: You can learn to play for free this month! International Pickleball Tennis Professional Association–certified teacher, referee, and trainer Dereck Prinze offers an introduction to pickleball on December 8 and 22, 12:30 to 1:45 p.m., at the Indian River Intergenerational Recreation Center (free for groups of four).
